Caring for Wood Levels

Proper handling and storage are required to maintain the quality of wood levels. The following suggestions will help keep your wood level in top condition.

KEEP YOUR WOOD LEVEL CLEAN

Cement contains chemicals that can break down the layers of lacquer that were originally applied to the level. Be sure to clean all wood levels after each use, especially when exposed to cement.

KEEP YOUR WOOD LEVEL DRY

It is imperative that a wood level is completely dry before storing it in a case or closed area. Hang the wood level by the built in hang hole when damp, or wet, until thoroughly dry. This will help to prevent warping, swelling, wood separation, etc.

APPLY LINSEED OIL TO YOUR WOOD LEVEL

The layers of lacquer will inevitably break down after repeated exposure to the chemicals in cement. To protect your level, it is recommended that you apply linseed oil to your level on a regular basis.
